How does SHR work?

SHR works, is a revolutionary new approach, rather than bombarding your skin with high amounts of Joules (energy), SHR fires multiple shots but at low Joules, in doing so it gently heats the hair follicle to heat needed and the most you will feel is warmth and a tingling sensation, some clients comparing it to a warm massage. SHR Laser Hair Removal gradually heats the skin by an in motion or sliding technique until the ideal amount of energy is delivered to the hair follicle. This new technology heats the hair follicle gently and for longer. This means the hair stem cells and blood supply are directly targeted. Hair follicles are not damaged by a single high energy pulse as in traditional Laser/IPL but by repetitive application of low energy pulses that raise the temperature of the dermis gradually and for longer.

The difference between SHR, IPL and laser?

SHR scans the treatment area with up to 10 shots per second. This gradually heats the targeted area for painless hair reduction, instead of high intensity shots that can cause discomfort, experienced with traditional IPLnor laser. SHR is unlike any other treatments out there, even though it is based on IPL technology its is not IPL and is a totally different application to IPL. It works by gradually heating the skin to a temperature that effectively damages the hair follicles and prevents re-growth, while avoiding injury to the surrounding area.

This is achieved by using In-Motion technique of moving the applicator repeatedly over the treatment area; all ensuring full coverage while simultaneously cooling the skin surface- preventing injury and allowing for virtually pain-free, yet highly effective hair reduction.

All hair types, all skin types , all year round

The unique SHR technology and techniques used in SHR makes all hair and skin types suitable for this treatment. SHR is also an attractive hair removal solution for those who don’t want to shy away from the sun, meaning treatments can be had all year round. By utilising low heat, SHR decreases the amount of heat absorbed by the skin so treatment can be done on tanned skin. SHR Technology is ideal for LIGHTER hair as well as DARKER hair.

Why do I need 8+ treatments?

Early Anagen (early hair growth), Anagen (active hair growth), Catagen (regression) and Telogen (resting, not growing). SHR hair removal only affects the Anagen stage (actively growing hair). Therefore, approximately 20- 25% of hair is reduced with each treatment. Several treatments are therefore required to fully treat the area.

Can I use Tanning products or Solarium’s?

The answer is NO, you should avoid using Self tanning products darken the surface of the skin (as does normal tanning – UV rays).When the surface of the skin darkens, it creates a competing target for the light energy of the laser – with the other competing target being the color in the hair. By darkening the surface of the skin, more laser energy will be absorbed at the skin’s surface rather than at the base (bulb) of the hair follicle, which is where we want the light energy to be absorbed to result a good treatment. When too much light energy is absorbed at the surface of the skin, it creates unwanted heat which can then cause blisters or burns. Avoid any exeses sun sun exposure in treatment areas is not recommended 4 – 6 weeks prior to the treatment without adequate sun protection. Do not expose the treated area to the sun for a minimum of two weeks prior to your next appointment. This also applies to spray tan applications and solariums.
