Skin Conditions We Treat

Acne & Acne Scarring
Acne is a common skin condition, often seen amongst teenagers, but can affect people of all ages. hormonal changes during puberty cause their sebaceous glands to secrete much more oil It is a result of your hair follicles becoming blocked with dead skin cells and oil. Acne can affect the face, chest, back and shoulders. Acne is most commonly known as pimples, a red lump with a white pustule on top, however it can also include whiteheads, blackheads and cysts under the skin. There are many factor and causes that trigger acne as a teenage such as , hair products, stress hormonal changes, poor hygiene , genetics, diet and more.Acne is a condition that affects many of us from our teenage years on wards and can appear anywhere on the body. It mostly common to start off on the forehead, id untreated can get worse and spreed to other parts of the face.Acne does not only affect teenagers, it can also effect adults or post adolescent acne. The causes are usually the same excess oil, hair follicle clogged, stress, hormonal changes, medication, and genetics.

There are 4 grades of Acne

Grade 1:Blackheads and congested skin with a rough, bumpy texture. Mainly caused by insufficient general cleansing of skin and/or combination of comedogenic ingredients that clog the pores like makeup sits the skin.

Grade 2:Similar to grade 1 acne however pimples are present. This will indicate that acne bacteria has been formed causing the pimples. The first step is to kill bacteria and ensure that exfoliation is part of the home care to prevent future clogging.

Grade 3: Similar to grade 2 however this grade of acne has whiteheads. A whitehead indicates that the white blood cells are coming to the infected area (pimple) to kill off infection hence the white pus.

Grade 4: When cysts or nodules are present. This is often the most painful acne grade and it means the infection is sitting very deep in the skin. Often these clients will have scarring due to the depth of the infection. Taking a very gentle and careful approach with this skin, a course of LED light therapy is best used in the beginning to kill bacteria followed by plans of treating the scarring.

When recovering from an injury, trauma or skin condition, scarring is a natural part of the healing process. If the trauma involves the most superficial layers of the skin (epidermis and superficial dermis), you can heal without scarring. However, if the trauma involves the deep dermis, a scar will develop.

Scarring is also a major concern for many acne sufferers. The primary cause of scars is usually a combination of genetics and hormonal factors, and we take this into account to get the best results.

Acne scarring is caused by the abnormal production and organisation of collagen fibres during the acne healing process. This can cause pits, abnormal skin contour, redness and pigmentation

Dehydrated Skin

Dehydrated skin, is a skin condition. It is caused by external elements (weather and seasonal changes), unhealthy diet (lack of fresh produce) and lifestyle choices (alcohol or caffeine consumption). All of these factors deplete your skin’s water content, resulting in a less supple appearance. Dehydration is characterized by a lack of water, not oil; even oily skin types can become dehydrated. Luckily, dehydrated skin is temporary and can be relieved with a combination of topical treatments, skincare and lifestyle changes.

Ageing -Fine lines & Wrinkles

Signs of ageing such as wrinkles, fine lines and sagging skin have two fundamental causes. The first cause is determined by an individual’s genetic makeup, while the second cause is outside influences such as environmental damage, free radicals and poor diet.

Fine lines and wrinkles are a natural part of skin ageing. As we age, our skin’s production of collagen and elastin naturally decreases, reducing the elasticity of the skin.

Excess exposure to the sun is a main factor in causing wrinkles. The UV rays produced by the sun, break down the collagen and elastic fibres in the skin, causing it to lose strength and elasticity prematurely, resulting in lines and wrinkles.

Prevention begins with adequate sun protection. Covering the skin where possible, and the use of spf 30+ sunscreen is essential. Keeping the skin hydrated and healthy will keep the skin producing collagen and elastic fibres, which provide support and elasticity to the skin. The UV rays produced by the sun, break down the collagen and elastic fibres in the skin, causing it to lose strength and elasticity prematurely, resulting in lines and wrinkles.. These factors result in the skin beginning to sag, causing the lines and crevices in the face to become what we know as wrinkles.

Pigmentation & Malasma

Freckles, age spots, sun spots, liver spots or plain old pigmentation: whatever you call it, irregular skin discolouration is a common and distressing problem caused by factors such as sun damage, some inflammatory skin disorders and hormonal fluctuations. The overproduction of melanin appears as discolouration, or pigmentation on the surface of your skin. This is often a result of your skins defence mechanism and a result of a change in either the internal or external environment. There are many contributing factors as well as types of pigmentation.

Common types of pigmentation

Solar lentigines

Also referred to as liver spots or sun spots, these are pigmented spots with a clearly defined edge. They may occur anywhere on the body and vary in colour from light brown to black. These spots are caused by UV sun exposure and the degree depends on how much UV light these melanin pigments are exposed to. These must be monitored as they may develop into skin cancer and melanoma.

Melasma is pigmentation that is deeper in the skin’s dermis. It appears on the face as larger brown patches mostyly common on the upper lip, forehead, and cheeks. with a non-distinct border. This type of pigmentation is more common in women with darker skin tones such as from Asians, Hispanic/Latino, Indians, Mediterranean, and middle Eastern.

Though causes are unknown, it is often stimulated by hormonal increases. The condition is made worse with UV exposure, some medications, hormonal changes such pregnancy, certain medications like the pill

Post-inflammatory hyper pigmentationThis is a response to injury of the skin and can be the result of acne, burns, friction or aggressive clinical treatments such as chemical peels, SSR Skin Rejuvenation. This condition often resolves with time and generally responds to topical products, although it can recur.

Factors which may contribute to your pigmentation include:Genetic and Racial Factors

Product Incompatibility , Stress, Hormonal Imbalances, medication , UV Exposure & Sun Damage

Pigmentation on the skin can be classified as either passive or inflammatory. Passive is the result of an internal imbalance and often the underlying issue needs to be addressed or the pigment will likely re-appear. Inflammatory is the result of the external environment and often easier to remove, although in both cases prevention is always the best form of protection. Treating pigmentation is no easy fix and, we can help to treat it and prevent by maintaining it from getting worse, but we can not completely make it disrepair unfortunately plans are designed to ensure we maintain the integrity of the skin, working on rebuilding a health cell environment. For this reason, any advanced pigmentation treatments without adequate preparationand having the client on a full home care routine

Rosacea/Sensitive & Reactive skin

Skin isn’t as sensitive as you might think. In fact, the outer layer of your skin (the epidermis) acts as a protective barrier for your body, keeping harmful substances out and locking moisture in. However, sometimes your skin’s natural defences can become weakened, which compromises the moisture barrier and leaves your skin susceptible to external irritants, such as harsh ingredients and allergens. Some people believe this to be sensitive skin, but it is more accurately known as reactive skin.

There are many reasons why your skin might become reactive. One of the main causes is trans epidermal water loss (TEWL). Water is very important for healthy skin. Using the incorrect skin care that contains harsh ingredients that striping your skin, Cold weather and central heating, hot weather and air conditioning can deprive skin of its moisture, leaving it feeling dry, sensitive and reactive. pollution can also weaken the skin’s natural barrier and make it more reactive.

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that affects the face. The cause of rosacea is unknown. The small capillaries become enlarged, causing a permanent flush appearance. In many people with Rosacea, some pimples appear often on the forehead, cheeks and chin.

The symptoms tend to worsen with alcohol, hot drinks, coffee and tea, spicy food, sun exposure, stress and overheating bed at night.

There is no cure for rosacea, however it may be controlled by avoiding the triggers previously mentioned, as well as:

•LED light therapy

•SSR Skin Rejuvenation

•Kerato Enzyme peel

•Intense Hydration facial
